En esta ocasión tenemos en el blog a nuestra maravillosa Cassie Clare, escritora de The Mortal Instruments y The Infernal Devices, mejor conocida por sus fans en español por escribir Cazadores de Sombras y Cazadores de Sombras: Los Orígenes publicados por la Editorial Planeta.

Primero que nada, estamos agradecidos de que nos dieras un poco de tu tiempo para contestar estas preguntas asi que bueno dicho esto procedamos con la entrevista x). Por supuesto no sin antes, contestes 2 preguntas básicas (de las cuales no podrás escapar) //

First at all, We are so gratefull that you give us a little of your time for answer this questions so well said this procede with the interview x). Of course before that, you have to answer 2 basic questions (which one you can’t runaway).

1. En una palabra, ¿Cómo se definiría Cassie Clare?
Tantos libros, tan poco tiempo.

Bueno después de pasar la parte dificil xD, comenzemos a hablar de CDS y TID y el proceso para escribirlo!! // Well after pass the hard part xD, let’s go to talk about TMI y TID and the process to write it!!

3. ¿Porqué escribir novelas juveniles de fantasía? ¿Tienes algún escritor de fantasía favorito?

Cuando era una niña/adolescente ame The Dark is Rising por Susan Cooper, The Prydain Chronicles de Lloyd Alexander, El Señor de los anillos, War for the Oaks by Emma Bull, cualquiera de Robin McKinley, Diana Wynne Jones o Neil Gaiman, cualquiera de las historias de Bordertown por Terri Windling, Ellen Kushner, Charles de Lint, y otros. Me encanta escribir fantasía ahora, ya que funciona como una alegoría de la vida cotidiana y puedes encontrar poderosas verdades en la literatura fantástica y en los medios de comunicación si estás dispuesto a mirar. Al escribir acerca de Clary, estoy escribiendo sobre el sentimiento que muchos adolescentes tienen de que son diferentes de alguna manera, alienado, a diferencia de los demás. Sólo que Clary en realidad, muy literalmente, es otra especie de humano. Al escribir acerca de Tessa, puedo hacer literal la experiencia, que a menudo es fuerte en la adolescencia, de sentir que su identidad es fluida y cambiante, que no estás seguro de quien eres todavía – de que eres alguien diferente cada vez que te miras al espejo.

3. Why write YA fantastic novels? Do you have a favorite fantastic writer?

When I was a kid/teen I loved The Dark is Rising by Susan Cooper, the Prydain Chronicles by Lloyd Alexander, the Lord of the Rings, War for the Oaks by Emma Bull, anything by Robin McKinley, Diana Wynne Jones or Neil Gaiman, any of the Bordertown stories by Terri Windling, Ellen Kushner, Charles de Lint, and others. I love writing fantasy now because it works as a allegory for daily life and you can find powerful truths in fantastic literature and media if you are willing to look. In "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", high school wasn't just a hellish experience, it was actually hell. In writing about Clary, I am writing about the feeling that a lot of teenagers have that they are different somehow, alienated, unlike others. Only Clary actually very literally is another kind of species of human. In writing about Tessa, I can make literal the experience, which is often strong in adolescence, of feeling that your identity is fluid and shifting, that you're not sure who you are yet — that you're someone different every time you look in the mirror.


4. Sabemos que te encanta viajar, e Inglaterra es uno de tus países favoritos, así que ¿Porqué amas este lugar?

Cuando tenía 10 años de edad pase un año viviendo en Londres. Fui una clase de “estudiante-libre”, el cual básicamente significa que no estuve en la escuela; mi padre estuvo trabajando en LSE pero mi madre no, así que ella decidió la historia de que Londres fuera donde pasáramos el año. Fuimos a todos los alrededores de la ciudad y quede fascinada incluso con su historia. Empecé a lagrimear a través de la literatura histórica de Londres. Cai enamorada de las historias de de Sherlock Holmes, que si bien recuerdo “The engineer’s Thumb” me mantuvo despierta por una semana. En el momento en que deje Londres sentí una profunda conexión con la ciudad. Intento volver tanto como puedo.

4. We know you love to travel, and England is one of your favorite countries, so why you love this place?

When I was about ten years old we spent a year living in London. I was sort of "free-studying", which basically meant I wasn't in school; my father was working at the LSE but my mother wasn't, so she decided the history of London was what we were going to spend the year on. We went all around the city and I became fascinated even then with its history. I started tearing through historical literature about London. I fell in love with the Sherlock Holmes stories there, although I remember "The Engineer's Thumb" kept me awake for a week. By the time we left London I felt a deep connection to the city. I tried to go back as often as I could.


5. ¿Cuáles han sido los comentarios de los lectores que más te han marcado?

Chicos que dicen gracias porque antes de leer tus libros no me gustaba leer pero ahora me encanta.

5. Which were the comments of your readers that most marked you?

Kids who say thank you because before they read my books they didn't like reading but now they do.


6. ¿Cómo te inspiraste para escribir Los Artefactos infernales, ambientado en una era diferente pero conservando la misma esencia?

He tenido una obsesión de por vida con la época Victoriana y Victoriana, probablemente derivada por mi amor adolescente con las Brontes* y Sherlock Holmes. Y no creo en eso como dos series separadas sino como una sola historia general de las familias de los Cazadores de sombras de los Waylands, Herondales, Fairchilds y Lightwoods. Esos libros son todos temáticamente vinculados a las cuestiones de familia, sangre y elecciones. ¿Estás destinado a lo que eras desde tu nacimiento o puedes elegir? ¿Qué hace a alguien de tu familia – es amor o lazos de sangre? ¿Puedes escapar de tu destino? En cierto sentido, la historia de los Artefactos Infernales hace posible la historia de los Cazadores de Sombras.

6. How do you inspired to write The infernal Devices, set in a different epic but conserve the same essence?

I've had a lifetime obsession with the Victorian era and Victoriana, probably stemming from my adolescent love of the Brontes and Sherlock Holmes. And I don't think of these as two separate series so much as a single overarching story of the Shadowhunter families of the Waylands, Herondales, Fairchilds, and Lightwoods. These books are all thematically linked by issues of family, blood and choice. Are you destined to be what you are from birth, or do you get to choose? What makes someone your family — is it love, or blood ties? Can what your blood relatives did in the past still reverberate in your own life? Can you escape your destiny? In a sense, the story of the Infernal Devices makes the story of the Mortal Instruments possible.

8. Así que, hablemos de las dos series, uno como lector sabe que podemos leer por separado CDS Y CDS: Los Orígenes, pero los tres últimos libros de Cazadores de Sombras tienen una relación en la historia con CDS: Los orígenes?

Si, la tienen. Estoy muy emocionada con esta aventura de alternar la publicación de las series – primero tendremos ÁNGEL MECÁNICO, después CITY OF FALLEN ANGELS, después CLOCKWORK PRINCE, luego CITY OF LOST SOULS, etc. Me permite detallar pequeños detalles a través de la narración que recompensa a los lectores atentos. Hay literalmente, personajes que aparecerán en el final de Angel que reaparecerán en el comienzo de CoFA; Jace se da cuenta de algunas imagenes en CoFA que unen algo en CITY OF LOST SOULS.

8. So, let’s talk about the 2 series, one as a reader knows that we can read TMI and TID separately but the last 3 of TMI have a thread relation with TID?

Yes, they do. I'm really looking forward to this adventure of alternating the series publications — first we'll have Clockwork Angel, then City of Fallen Angels, then Clockwork Prince, then City of Lost Souls, etc. It allows me to salt tiny details through the narrative that reward close reading. There are literally characters who show up in the end of Angel who reappear at the beginning of Fallen Angels; Jace notices some graffitti in Fallen Angels that ties into something in Lost Souls.

8. ¿Cómo describirías CDS y CDS: Los Orígenes en 3 palabras?

Atractivo, oscuro, aventurado.

8. How will you describe TMI and TID on 3 words? )

Sexy, dark, adventure.

9. No he tenido todavía la oportunidad de leer Ángel Mecánico, pero no se porque pienso que me enamorare perdidamente de Will, asi que Will y Jace? ¿Existe alguna posibilidad de que aparezcan en el mismo libro? ¿El libro final? (moriría si eso pasará)

Pero si no has conocido aún a Will! No puedo decir si es que alguna vez van a aparecer en el mismo libro. Solo que probablemente no se lleven bien. (Comentario mio: xDD pues claro guerra de egos xD)

9. I have not the opportunity to read Clockwork Angel yet, but I don’t know why I think that I will falling in love with Will, so Will and Jace? Is there any possibility that they appear in a same book? The final book? (I’ll die if this happens)

But you haven't even met Will yet! I can't say whether they will ever appear in the same book. Only that they would probably not get along.

10. ¿Qué podemos esperar de CoFA? ¿Jace y Clary, ¿Qué sucederá con ellos? ¿Simon, Maia e Isabelle? ¿Magnus y Alec? ¿Qué nuevos peligros podemos esperar? Bueno, nada se queda tranquilo por mucho tiempo para nuestros angustiosos, hormonales adolescentes. Jace y Clary están experimentando el gozo de estar enamorados, pero por supuesto – hay quiénes no les desean lo mejor y quieren verlos alejados. La pobre vida amorosa de Simon es un desastre, e incluso Magnus y Alec están teniendo problemas!

10. What can we expect on City of Fallen Angels? Jace and Clary, What will happen whit them? Simon, Maia, Isabelle? Magnus and Alec? Which new dangers can we expect?

Well, nothing ever stays peaceful for long for our angsty, hormonal teenagers. Jace and Clary are experiencing the bliss of being in love, but then of course — there are those who don't wish them well and want to keep them apart. Poor Simon's love life is a mess, and even Magnus and Alec are having issues!

11. Recientemente leí que existe un Instituto en México, así que ¿queremos saber si es cierto y si hay alguna posibilidad de que aparezca en cualquiera de los siguientes libros?

Existen Institutos en la mayoría de las grandes ciudades del mundo. Por supuesto que hay uno en el D.F. Pero no puedo prometer que aparecerá en cualquiera de los libros- todos quieren ver un Instituto en sus ciudad pero uno no puede nombras a todo el mundo.

11. Recently I read that there is an Institute in México, so we want to know if this is true and is there any possibility that appears in any of the next books?

There are Institutes in most of the big cities of the world. Of course there is an Institute in the D.F. BUT I cannot promise it will appear in any of the books — everyone wants to see their city's Institute but you can't please the whole world.

12. ¿Qué piensas de que Jace sea el personaje hot más deseado en este mundo? Realmente muchas chicas (incluyéndome) pensamos de esa forma.

Estoy muy contenta porque significa que está por ahí haciendo a un montón de gente feliz! Al mismo tiempo es bueno que él no sea real o tendría un enorme ego.

12. What do you think about Jace been the hottest and desire character in this world? Really a lot of girls (Including me) thinks on this way.

I am very pleased because it means he is out there making lots of people happy! At the same time it is good he is not a real person or he would have a huge ego.

13. ¿Cuál personaje de CDS o CDS: Los Orígenes fue el más divertido de escribir y porqué?

Magnus es siempre divertido de escribir. Es como ir de fiesta a donde sea que el vaya.

13. Which TMI and TID character was the most fun to write and why?

Magnus is always the most fun. It is like a party wherever he goes.


14. La pregunta inevitable, ¿Qué personajes de CDS: Los origenes aparecerán en CDS (además de Magnus y Camille)

Aunque no puedo responder específicamente a eso, aquí hay un EXTRA para los lectores mexicanos: Hay 4 personajes en total que se cruzan. A ustedes les toca adivinar quiénes serán esos últimos dos.

14. The inevitable question, Which character of TID will be appear in TMI series (besides Magnus and Camille)?

While I can't answer that specifically, here is a tidbit for Mexican readers: there are four crossover characters in total. It is up to you to guess who the last two will be.

Ayer Cassie mencion que Clockwork Prince se adelanta un mes, y en lugar de salir en septiembre 2011, saldrá para agosto del mismo año!
